stuff we get asked & things you should know!
What is BigTie?
BigTie is a handy piece of software that acts as a middleman of sorts between WordPress and mail management software (currently MadMimi and MailChimp). It signs up a user to a blog and mailing list one simple step (though double opt-in is an available option on the Mailchimp version)
What is the difference between BigTie and the free MailChimp WordPress widget?
The free MailChimp plugin for WordPress is placed in the sidebar of a WordPress blog and allows the user to sign up for a MailChimp list. It does not integrate or share data with WordPress. BigTie! seamlessly integrates with the WordPress user registration process and does not require the user to fill out a second form, then confirm, the way the free plugin does.
Having a separate sign up and opt-in process allows the user to register for your website without opting in to your mailing list, significantly lowering the value of that user. If you have a website requiring users to register for content, less than 25% of those users will fill out and opt-in through a secondary registration form. In short, the integrated sign-up process significantly increases mailing list subscriptions.
What do I need to run BigTie!?
- WordPress
- PHP 5
- A Linux-based server
- And, of course, MadMimi or MailChimp are pretty important, too!
How does BigTie! Handle opt-outs?
Opt-outs are handled entirely through the mailing system you choose to run BigTie! with. If the user unsubscribes from a mailing list, it will not effect their status as a user on the blog.
I'm interested in BigTie! But I would like to see a version for iContact (or any other mailing management software)
Thanks for your interest. Though there are currently no plans to create versions of BigTie for any other mail management software, our resident supergeek could be persuaded to create a version if there are nine or more pre-orders. Please
contact us for more information.
What's with the name?
BigTie! Seamlessly ties WordPress to mail management softwares. (Though, there is a rumor that BigTie was named after an executive at Headfirst Concepts, LLC, the creators of BigTie!.)
